Slate surfaces such as tables and floors are eye-catching and have increased in popularity in recent years. Before buying a slate table, it is important to know that it requires special care. Certain cleaning products can damage the slate, so knowing the proper way to clean your slate table is important to maintain it for long-term use. That said, cleaning the slate is not expensive or difficult.
Acid cleaners should not be used on the slate.
Dirty the slate tabletop surface with a soft duster. Remove loose debris, dirt, and lint. When dusting the slate tabletop, keep the fluid motion in one direction to prevent debris from damaging the slate surface.
Fill the bucket with warm water. Add a few drops of mild detergent. A detergent such as Draft or Woolite or a mild laundry detergent will work. Do not clean products that contain vinegar or other acidic ingredients.
Dip a soft, clean cloth in a bucket and then submerge in water until saturated. Lift it out of the water, squeeze it over a bucket, and let it moisten so that it is no longer saturated.
Wipe the surface of the slate table with a soft cloth. Work slowly and use strokes. Wet and wring a soft, soft cloth frequently. Then the soil will not spread.
Leave the slate table dry, but moist, not saturated.
